An election for commissioners for the town of Wilmington took place on Thursday last. As will be seen from the Jourpal the election w'as a ven quiet one. TLat paper, in' introducing the vote;, gays: As a general thing there was little or no excite ment yesterday over the Commissioners' election," as will be evident from the small vote polled Wo believe Ilis Honor the Mayor, being on every ticket and his election conceded, received every vote that was polled, so .that the vote for him (John Dawson) may be regarded as the aggre gate. It will be seen that Col. John Mcliae and fcj.'R. Bunting, Es(p, received the gamfnumber of votes. The pod-holders, in pursuance of what they believed to be their duty under the law, pro ceeded to draw lots for the purpose of deciding between these gentlemen. On Tuesday last, in Pasquotank county, X. C, at Newbegin Creek, a quarrel took place between Dr. WJ. Upsher, for merly rof Norfolk city, and John ; Baley, of the above county. Not wishing to havo further diffi- . culty, Dr. U. left B's. store, but was 'followed by the latter out into the piazza, where he used very abusive language, and attempted to strike Dr U.f w ho dealt him a biow with his first, knocking him down. In falling B's head struck U's buggy wheel, which rendered' him senseless.
